I first took over the occupation of a dark and damp room in an out-building at Barton Hall as I was in need of a studio space.  I needed a space which could serve many different requirements. One of which was to act as a flexible work space for the building of sculptures and development of ideas.  The studio also needed to become  a contemporary gallery space for open exhibitions; events such as Northampton Open Studios.

 

It was important to me that the design of the studio space did not detract from the intrinsic quality of the heritage of the building.  By creating the studio as an independent space within the period structure, a harmonious blend of the historic and contemporary had been achieved.
